A Healthy Detox Recipe For All Ages

Go to any grocery store and you will see aisle after aisle of heavily processed foods. The idea was to preserve foods to feed the ever growing mass public. That goal has been achieved but at a heavy price. On a daily basis our bodies are subjected to chemicals, pesticides, fungicides, MSG, air pollutants, water pollutants and there is almost no way to get away from it. We now live in an age where detoxing our bodies is not just a luxury but a necessity.

The average American diet is over acidic due to our current lifestyle. That means we are open to all types of disease. The liver, kidneys and all other organs in the body are heavily taxed. With a little education and perseverance you can take control of your own health and start to look and feel better. After all, are we not looking for quality of life? This is hard to do when you are feeling sluggish, tired and weak!

Here are some foods that really feed and cleanse the body:

Water

Most Americans are semi dehydrated and don't even know it. It is pretty well known that you are supposed to drink approximately 8 glasses of water per day. Do you know when you haven't been drinking sufficient water? If your urine is dark, that is an easy way to tell if you have not had enough water.

Citrus fruit

Lemons, grapefruit, oranges and limes are packed with delicious nutrients and also hydrate the body. You can do the body a lot of good starting your day with fresh lemon juice in warm water.

Green foods

Such as all forms of lettuce, cabbage, watercress, spinach, broccoli and sprouts. Their anti-oxidant properties, mineral content and chlorophyll, all work their magic on the body.

Nuts and seeds

Eating raw nuts and seeds give us the natural good fats and protein and also have some anti-cancer properties, especially in almonds, pine nuts and sesame seeds. Pumpkin seeds are also good for getting rid of parasites.

Colorful fruits and vegetables

We want to eat lots of these. The nutrient value is unmatched. We also get a lot of fiber from eating fruits and vegetables and that keeps our digestive system working properly.

Here is a healthy recipe that tastes great and feeds and cleanses the body;

Summer Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette

In a salad bowl combine, lettuce of your choice, spinach leaves, watercress, chives, mandarin orange slices and sesame seeds.

To make the vinaigrette, combine ½ cup fresh orange juice, the juice of 1 fresh lemon, the rind of the orange and lemon,1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp honey and pepper to taste. Mix well and pour over salad.

Keep in mind that we want to reduce the amount of chemicals and pesticides etc., so choose organic foods and spices. It is well worth it in the long run for your health and well being.

If you are serious about detoxing and cleansing the body, then eat right, drink a lot of fluids and get some regular exercise. Our bodies were designed this way.

Currently, we live in a toxic world and the food industry is not likely to change its way anytime soon. It is up to us to create the demand for all natural food, and that is as it should be.

Good health to you!

Soul Food Recipes Idea - Add Healthy Swagger to Your Soul Food Recipes

Soul food recipes have traditional had the reputation of robust flavors, heavy seasonings and comfort feelings. Unfortunately much of these factors came from food deep fried in huge amounts of lard, salt and pork for flavoring. A decade ago the above fact may have been true, but healthier changes are taking place now in this tasty southern cuisine.

Now you'll find more restaurants, cookbooks and many free soul food recipes websites offering healthier choices. A growing consumer demand, pushed initially by health care experts, is fueling this new movement for healthier recipes. To answer this growing demand, many restaurants are offering more fresh fruits and vegetables and even salad bars, unheard of a few years ago.

To add to this healthier trend, specific cooking techniques inspire better eating habits in consumers. For example, many southern dishes that were traditionally deep fried in oil or even lard have changed to healthier cooking. For example, steaming, baking, roasting and stir-frying.

These new changes have inspired kudos from health experts and many food critics. Many like the lighter and healthier versions of the traditional southern dishes. These new versions have the benefits of lighter taste while maintaining the rich flavors and robust taste soul food cooking is known for.

Another new cooking technique that has came to this popular southern cuisines is stir frying. Traditionally a Chinese cooking technique, stir frying has caught on as a favorite among many southern cooks. Now you can find stir fried greens, cabbage and other leafy southern vegetables traditionally boiled in water, as well as stir fried yams.

Stir frying has won rave reviews from health experts, because it preserves up to 70% of foods nutrients. On the other hand boiling vegetables in large amount of water can dilute nutrients and vitamins away. You can even find many stir frying classes springing up across the country to meet this growing consumer demand.

In addition, many people are flavoring dishes with more natural herbs and spices as opposed to butter, cream or pork products such as fat back, lard or ham hocks, for example. Now you'll find more cooks using more natural and healthier seasonings to flavor southern dishes. Here's some of the more popular herbs and seasonings used to flavor soul food recipes.

Seasonings like garlic powder, bay leaves, chili peppers, rosemary, thyme, basil, annatto, caraway, cayenne pepper, celery flakes, ginger, lemon juice or powder, lime juice or powder, lemon pepper, lime pepper, sage and other natural herbs and spices. As healthier soul food cooking and techniques are used and tested we'll keep you informed for your convenience.

Eating healthily is important, especially for children. Starting off the day with the right sort of breakfast, such as cereal, or toast is much better for you and your children than crisps or chocolate. A healthy lunch will make sure that your children have enough energy to play in the playground, and to concentrate in lessons all afternoon, and that you'll not feel sleepy and lethargic in the afternoon either.

Healthy Family Recipes might just involve modifying some of your existing family favourites to make them healthier. You might want to change some of the ingredients slightly, or cook them in a different way.

Healthy Eating - Cabbage

The cabbage is perhaps the most recognised vegetable of the Brassicaceae family. The Botanical name (Genus) 'Brassica', is the same as many other species of the same family. The cabbage is of the species oleracea.

The cabbage is a 'head forming' vegetable that can be used raw or cooked. Red cabbage is a cultivar used mainly in salads and coleslaws. The cabbage is a biennial though usually treated as an annual.

There are several common vegetables of the Brassica genus. Cauliflower, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, turnips, canola and mustards are the most common.

A common use of cabbage is the production of sauerkraut. Sauerkraut is made from finely shredded cabbage that has been made by a process called Lacto-fermentation using various bacteria including Lactobacillus. Properly fermented Sauerkraut can keep for months in sealed bottles.

Cabbage is a common cold season vegetable usually planted in late summer to early autumn. Cabbage is very depleting to the soil, pulling on much of the soil nutrients. Rotating crops with peas or other Legume crops and using plenty of organic matter to build the soil up in between planting's, will help repair nutrient depletion.

Health benefits of cabbage

Cabbage and Brassica's in general are known for their positive impact on the prevention of cancer. Research has shown the consumption of cabbage may lower the risk of heart attack.

Cabbage contains high amounts of vitamin K, which acts in blood clotting allowing wounds to heal quickly. People using anticoagulant treatments such as warfarin should eat cabbage with caution after consultation with your family Doctor.

Cabbage is high in B group Vitamins including, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B9. Cabbage is also a good source of Zinc, Potassium, Phosphorous, Magnesium, Iron and Calcium. It is also an excellent source of Dietary fibre.

The many uses of cabbage

Cabbage is often used as filler in Chinese dishes and stir-fries. An old favourite, Dim Sim's are based on a mixture of meat and cabbage.

Cabbage can be shredded or finely chopped and used to make coleslaw. It also makes a tangy addition to summer salads.

A Diet using cabbage called the 'Cabbage Soup diet' surfaced a few years ago. I don't personally feel it takes the place of a well-planned healthy lifestyle as a way of losing or maintaining weight. All diets should be used in conjunction with guidance from a medical practitioner or dietician.

Cabbage should be used as one of many vegetables to form a balanced diet and eating plan.

A Healthy Delicious Recipe

I hate to tell you this, but nobody can be healthy if they keep eating donuts, french fries, or burgers. These foods have so much unhealthy fat in them and these fats will eventually cause so much damage to your body, such as heart disease or diabetes. Therefore, to get a healthy body, you should start eating healthy food and avoid bad food at all costs.

Now, the problem people have with healthy food is the belief that all foods that are healthy taste bad. This is not true. I am here to teach you how to cook foods that are not only delicious, but also healthy. Did I mention it's also easy?

This recipe is very simple. The ingredients you will need are brown rice, frozen peas, lean ground beef, and olive oil. Now let me explain to you the benefits of each of the ingredients. The reason I am using brown rice instead of white rice is that brown rice has more fiber and is naturally more nutritious than white rice. The outer layer of brown rice is full of nutrients, while white rice has an extremely small amount of nutrients due to the fact that its outer layer is removed.

Peas are also full of fiber and in fact, it has more fiber than brown rice. Fiber is good for your body because it helps you remove waste from your colon. If you do not have enough fiber in your diet, you would start having constipation problems. In addition, peas are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin K, and carotenes.

Lean ground beef is a good source of protein, which is used by your body to repair and build tissues. It is used by almost every part of your body, even your nails and hair are mostly made of protein.

Lastly, olive oil is good for your body because it has very healthy fat. Unlike the bad fat you can find in donuts, french fries, and burgers, the fat found in olive oil protects you from heart disease and prevents colon cancer.

After telling you all the benefits of the ingredients we are using for this recipe, it's time to teach you how to cook them! First, you cook brown rice with a rice cooker. After 30 minutes, heat up your pan, put in about 3 tablespoons of olive oil, and make sure that the oil is spread well around the pan. Now, you put in the ground beef and stir it. After the ground beef turns brown, which takes about a few minutes, you then add in 1 or 2 servings of peas. Continue to stir for several minutes.

Next, you can add some salt and black pepper to the peas and ground beef. Stir for one more minute and turn off the stove. By now, the brown rice should be ready to eat. Get a big bowl and mix the brown rice, the peas, and the ground beef together. It's officially ready to eat! It's simple as that!

15 Minute Dinner - A Healthy Quick Recipe For Stir Fry Chicken With Zucchini

This dinner- a healthy quick recipe for Stir Fry Chicken with Zucchini and Noodles is a busy mom's dream come true. It is an extra quick and easy chicken recipe that is inexpensive to boot. The noodles cook in 1 minute once the water boils and the chicken only needs a few minutes of stir frying. The dish is low in fat and healthy, and sure to be a hit for dinner on those busy nights. Why not bring out the chopsticks and practice up on your skills.

To thinly slice the chicken, place the breasts in the freezer for a few minutes to partially freeze the meat. The breasts will then be firm but not hard and easy to slice thin. Be careful not to freeze solid however, frozen chicken is nearly impossible to slice. Instead of the ramen noodles, you could also serve this recipe over stir fried rice or alone with additional vegetables.

Stir Fry Chicken with Zucchini and Noodles

1whole or 2 halves chicken breast, diced or sliced thin

1 Tablespoon oil

1 clove garlic crushed, or 1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 tablespoons light soy sauce

1/2 cup bamboo shoots, sliced into matchsticks

14 cup canned mushroom slices

1 1/2 cups diced zucchini

1 Tablespoon cornstarch

1/4 cup water or chicken broth

3-4 packages chicken flavored ramen noodles depending on your guests

Put on the water for the noodles. Ramen noodles cook fast, follow the package directions, but you will drain them for serving. There is no need to cook them separately, just do them all in the same pot. When the cooking time is up, take them off the heat; keep them warm until the chicken is done, then drain.
Stir fry the chicken over high heat with the garlic in a small amount of oil. When it turns white, add the soy sauce and continue stirring for a 2 to 3 minutes.
Add the zucchini, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms. Continue cooking for a few more minutes
Mix the cornstarch with the water or broth. Stir into the mixture and cook, stirring until thickened.
Serve the Chicken with Zucchini over a bed of drained ramen noodles. Serves 4.
