Top 3 Soup Tricks That Lead to Weight Loss

Looking to lose some pounds quickly and safely? Scientists have now proven that nutrition can account for 70% of your weight loss efforts. However, if the thought of boring diet food and tiny portions are discouraging your weight loss efforts, take heart. With some creativity you can eat satisfying and tasty meals and still lose weight. Soups are perfect for weight loss because they are filling and can be made in a variety of ways. Here are some simple ways to transform your favorite soup recipes into powerful weight loss aids.

Stock instead of fat: Eliminate fat from your soup recipes by sauteing your ingredients in stock. This increases the flavor of your food without extra calories. Once your soup is ready to serve you can add half a teaspoon of heart healthy fat, such as extra virgin olive oil per serving of soup. This way you get all the mouth feel of fat without adding extra calories.

Fibre rich creamy soups: You don't need fatty cream to make your soup taste rich. Use red lentils in your recipe. Red lentils break down to impart a nice creamy texture into your soup. They also add a nutty flavor to your soup, not to mention extra B vitamins, fiber and protein.

Secrets of yogurt: A wonderful way of livening up simple soups is by adding a generous dollop of fat free yogurt just before serving. Enjoy all the sensations of a rich soup without the added calories.

Other weight loss substitutions include adding whole wheat pasta to noodle soup recipes, adding cayenne pepper instead of black pepper (cayenne is a proven metabolism booster) and using spices for flavor instead of fat.

Cabbage Soup For Weight Loss? 3 Important Things to Know Before You Begin

Let me begin by saying, that cabbage is very good food source and has long been noted for the ability to help rid the body of water weight.

Cabbage belongs to the important family of cruciferous vegetables, which includes broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts just to name a few.

Cabbage contains these important nutrients:

Vitamin A: Which is responsible for protection of eyes and skin.

Vitamin C: Is an important antioxidant and helps to burn fat.

Vitamin E: Is a fat soluble antioxidant and plays a role in the health of your skin.

Vitamin B: Helps maintain the nerve endings and boosts energy metabolism.

The cabbage soup diet, has been known to work for some people, and the soup itself is perfectly fine to eat as a food.

Now while I certainly do not think cabbage soup for weight loss is the worst thing you can do, let me just say that there are some additional things to consider before you begin this diet.

Here are 3 things you should know about cabbage soup for weight loss:

1. Eating such few calories will leave you starving - literally. You will want to chew your hand off.

2. Eating such few calories will deprive you of the many nutrients that you need every single day and therefore your body will not function as properly as it should. Think brain fog, extreme hunger and feeling weak overall.

3. Eating such few calories will rob you of precious energy you NEED in order to burn calories effectively in the first place, as well as energy you need to function throughout your day.

If you do decide to try cabbage soup for weight loss realize that most of the weight you will lose is water weight, not real fat burn. So this is a temporary budge of your scale, not real weight loss.

In order to burn fat, you MUST eat! Eating foods that are pure and contain fiber as well eating on a regular basis will get the weight off.

There is nothing wrong with adding the cabbage to your diet, even the soup if you wish. But if you think cabbage soup for weight loss and eat nothing else you will be disappointed with the temporary results as well as compromising your body functions.

Home Remedies for Stomach Ulcers

It is not surprising that gastric distress is one of the most common complaints people have when they visit their doctors. Given the how hard it is to avoid eating a large amount of processed food and how stressful life is for many of us - the diagnosis seems to fit. Also, though antibiotics do cure many infections they can rob us of the good bacteria our bodies use to fight the bad bacteria that causes stomach ulcers.

Conventional medicine offers both over the counter products and prescription drugs to try to heal ulcers. Sometimes these methods work but often they don't. I myself took both prescription and non-prescription drugs for stomach ulcers but got no relief. I being a believer in natural cures did some research and tried some home remedies for stomach ulcers. For myself, the natural remedies worked much better than the conventional one and my research indicated that many other people had similar results. There are a wide variety of natural cures for stomach ulcers out there and after some research and personal use here is a list of some of the effective ones.

Cabbage juice is frequently suggested as a natural healer of ulcers. Though cabbage is known to produce gas it actually contains an amino acid called L-Glutamine. L-Glutamine is known for helping to strengthen the cells lining the esophagus and stomach so they can repair themselves. L-glutamine is as effective as drinking cabbage juice and is more convenient as it comes in capsule.

Aloe vera juice is known mostly for helping with burns but it is also good for healing and preventing ulcers. You can find Aloe vera juice in the health food section of your grocery. When I consulted an osteopath about my stomach problems aloe vera juice was one her first suggestions for treatment. Now I always keep some in my refrigerator and even if I just have an upset stomach, I take about two ounces of the juice. Aloe vera juice is also anti bacterial, antifungal, anti viral and also an anti inflammatory agent.

Another effective remedy is cayenne pepper. I know it does not sound logical because pepper gives you that burning sensation in your mouth. but the pepper actually works. Some people advise taking it in the capsule form but others say you can simply take the ground cayenne pepper dissolved in water. Several health food stores recommended it when I was shopping for a cure and many online sources did also. Capsaicin is what gives peppers their heat. I felt warmth in my stomach when I took the capsule but it was not an unpleasant sensation. Cayenne pepper also has anesthetic properties and therefore may block the pain Capsaicin is also thought to reduce ulcer related bleeding.

There are several herbs that are used to heal ulcers by reducing acid in the stomach. Licorice, chamomile, cinnamon, marshmallow, slippery elm, calendula and agrimony are some of the commonly used ones. I found chamomile always to be helpful for an upset stomach and also took it as part of my regime to alleviate ulcer pain. Chamomile has antispasmodic properties, meaning it helps relax muscle contractions, especially in the smooth muscles that make up the intestines. If you are taking blood-thinning medications such as Coumadin, heparin, Plavix, Ticlid or Trental you should avoid using chamomile as it might increase their effect.

French Onion Soup Recipe - Not Just For Newlyweds

By tradition, this French onion soup recipe is served to newlyweds on their wedding night in France. Try to imagine that you've just been married and are settling down for your first night of matrimonial bliss with your beloved and into the room bursts a whole lot of singing and laughing people bearing a tureen of steaming soup. You are obliged to eat some to get the revelers out of the room and on their way. Sort of a nutty tradition, eh?

You'll also find onion soup served during other long nights of eating and revelry in France. It is supposed to have restorative properties, giving you the strength to continue with la fete.

No need to get married or stay up all night long though to enjoy this excellent soup. With it's French bread and cheese topping, it makes a satisfying meal just by itself, perfect for any winter night.

Here are a few tips for making perfect French onion soup and then the recipe itself:

The one essential step in making a good onion soup is to take your time in cooking the onions. It can take more then half an hour to get the necessary caramelization that gives this French onion soup recipe all of its good taste. Since you have to stir the onions frequently to keep them from browning, it is a good idea to have something else to do in the kitchen at the same time. You can clean up and set the table for example.
Usually the soup is served into individual oven proof bowls then topped with the bread and cheese before baking, but there is no need to go out and buy a bunch of new equipment if you just want to try this for a first time. Simply bake the soup in any oven proof dish and then serve from that. The effect will be a little different, but the taste will still be excellent.
In France this French onion soup recipe is normally made with Gruyere cheese, but you may not be able to find that, so Swiss cheese is a good substitute
French Onion Soup Recipe
Soupe à l'oignon

2 pounds yellow onions, peeled and sliced into rings
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 quarts of beef stock
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup of white wine
Salt and pepper
loaf of French bread, cubed
1 1/2 cups of grated Swiss cheese

Cook the onions in the olive oil on low to medium heat stirring frequently. It should take about 30 minutes to get a good caramelization effect. Add the minced garlic and cook for one minute. Add the flour and cook for another minute. Now add the beef stock and wine and simmer for another 30 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

To serve, ladle the soup into oven-proof bowls (or use a single large oven proof dish), making sure that everyone gets plenty of onions. Place cubes of French bread to cover and than sprinkle with cheese. Bake in 350° F oven for 10 minutes, broiling for the last few minutes to brown slightly.

If you have only 5 pounds to lose, and this is the first diet you are trying, then sure you could shed all the excess weight in a week or two. With every new fad diet you start and stop, it will take longer to lose some weight and quicker to regain whatever you have lost and more, especially when quitting the diet prior to achieving your goal weight and maintaining it for about six months.

When choosing a home diet, typically the ones void of weekly support meetings, look out for the following:
Reasonable weight loss goals, e.g:3 to 5 pounds per ten days.
Ensure the meal plans are broad enough to prevent boredom, especially if you have enough fat you want to loose.
The foods included are for their nutritional value - as this will benefit your health as well.
Includes the consumption of all fresh fruits and vegetables.
Eliminates the consumption of Corn Syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, and unfermented soy products.
The diet is personalized to match your metabolic type. There are lost of ways to lose weight, however starvation diets, using diet pills and meal supplements are not the answer to permanent healthy weight loss.

An added bonus would be the inclusion of detailed recipes, because often we tend to use incorrect base ingredients in the preparation of meals which is detrimental to our health and successful weight loss.

Some soups take a long time to cook but there are delicious soup recipes that you can prepare in just fifteen minutes. The easiest way to make a fifteen minute soup is to dissolve a bouillon cube in some boiling water, then add some sliced or chopped vegetables. Simmer the soup until the vegetables are tender, and then serve it as it is or puree the soup in a conventional blender or with an immersion blender.

You can also add herbs, spices, or seasonings to this basic soup recipe. Add some curry powder and cumin for an Indian flavor, a pinch of Herbs de Provence for a classic French touch, some dried basil, and oregano for an Italian flavor or a squeeze of lime juice and some chili powder to give the soup a Mexican taste.

If you are more concerned about making a quick onion soup than following the traditional French onion soup recipe though, it is possible to make this soup in fifteen minutes by sauteing the onions rather than caramelizing them.

There are various quick onion soup recipes you can follow if you are not too concerned about getting the caramelized onion flavor, or you can use onion as the main ingredient in your own speedy soup recipe.

Famous Russian Soup Recipes

Russian soups are very popular and they are usually served in the afternoon. Borscht is very famous and this is a beet soup. Mixed meat soup and vegetable soup are also well loved and these soups are often topped with a dollop of sour cream.

Meat, potatoes, and cabbage are amongst the most common ingredients in Russian soup recipes. Fish is also used. Chicken soup recipes are popular in Russia and "kuryniy soup" is a delicious Russian chicken soup, which is served with rye bread. This chicken soup recipe is made with vegetable broth and contains chicken meat as well as vegetables and fresh herbs.

Mushroom soup is also a Russian favorite and this is made with fresh mushrooms. The water in which the mushrooms are cooked is changed several times during the cooking process. There is a tasty chilled soup called "okroshka" which is great when the weather is hot. It is garnished with dill and sour cream and is usually made from sausages or some type of meat.

Borscht - The Most Famous Russian Soup

Borscht is perhaps the most famous soup from the Soviet Union and it is bright red in color. It contains beets, potatoes, onion, garlic, cabbage, carrots, dill and more. This soup might not soup particularly appetizing but it has an incredible flavor. Like most Russian soups, it is traditionally adorned with a dollop of sour cream before serving.

Recipe for Mixed Meat Soup

This Russian soup recipe makes two quarts of soup. Beef, kidney, ham, and hot dogs are used for the meat content and onions, olives, tomatoes, capers and more are added for texture and flavor. Serve this soup with a dollop of sour cream, in the typical Russian style.

If you want to substitute any of the meats, that is fine. Perhaps you are a fan of chicken soup recipes, in which case you can use chicken instead of the hot dogs or kidney.

Like a lot of other Russian soup recipes, this one is best when you make it a day in advance, chill it overnight in the refrigerator and then warm it up and serve it the following day, because this lets the flavors combine better and the soup will have a superior taste.

You will need:

2 1/2 lbs beef chuck on the bone
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 lbs hotdogs, in 1/4 inch slices
1 veal kidney
1 tablespoon capers
2 chopped onions
1/4 lb ham, in 1/2 inch cubes
6 cups water
4 oz pickled mushrooms
6 tablespoons flour
2 bay leaves
2 julienned dill pickles
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup chopped, pitted black olives
2 peeled, chopped fresh tomatoes
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1/2 sliced lemon

How to make it:

Boil the beef chuck in the water for an hour and a half to make a juicy, rich broth. Remove and discard the beef bones. Slice the kidney and dredge it in the flour. Saute it in the butter with the onions. Stir the hot dogs, ham, onions, and kidney into the beef broth. Cook for twenty minutes, then add the other ingredients and cook for fifteen minutes more. Serve hot.

How to Make Soup Recipes With Nuts

Nuts might not be the first ingredient when you think about soup recipes but they can greatly enhance the look, flavor, and texture of a soup. Pecans, peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts and chestnuts are just some of the nuts you can use to make delicious soup recipes. You can use whole, halved, or chopped nuts in soups, or you can grind the nuts into a powder for thickening and flavoring your soup.

A chestnut, bean, and celery soup would make a hearty lunch or a flavorful and warming appetizer. Maybe you fancy a Spanish style celery and garlic soup with ground almonds, cream, and mace. Ground pecans would be tasty added to a vegetable soup, along with some soy sauce, ginger, and nutmeg for flavoring.

You can even make sweet soup recipes with nuts, such as chocolate and hazelnut soup. Simmer it with some egg yolks to thicken it and add cream to give the soup a luxurious flavor and make this a winning dessert. If you enjoy sweet entree recipes, what about using some chopped hazelnuts or almonds to garnish a homemade canned pumpkin soup recipe? Pumpkin has a sweet or savory flavor, depending how it is cooked and what dish you make with it.

Toasting and Roasting Nuts

You can toast nuts or use them raw. To toast nuts for soup recipes, simply spread them over a baking sheet and bake for about fifteen minutes, turning the nuts a few times, until they are fragrant. Then you can coarsely chop them and add them to your recipe.

Toasted pecans work well as the main ingredient in a soup. Combine them with chicken broth, onion, sherry, cinnamon, thyme and other aromatic flavors for a gourmet appetizer soup.

To roast chestnuts, make an X shaped cut on the underside and arrange them on a baking sheet, cut side upwards. Add a little water to the baking sheet and cook the chestnuts for about twenty minutes in a 350 degrees F oven, or until they are brown, tender and the skin is peeling back from the flesh. You can boil the chestnuts to make them easier to peel but you will be sacrificing nutrients and flavor if you do that.

Recipe for Peanut Soup Creole Style

The following recipe uses peanut butter for a nutty taste and this makes enough soup for six servings. Use a sugar free peanut butter to make this, for the best results.

What you will need:

1/4 cup flour
2 minced onions
1/4 cup butter
8 cups chicken broth
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 pint heavy cream
3 chopped cloves garlic
2 chopped Anaheim chilies or similar
1 cup shredded chicken (optional)
Fresh chopped cilantro or parsley, for garnish
Scallions or peanuts, for garnish
Salt and black pepper, to tasteHow to make it:

Saute the garlic, chilies, and onion in the butter until the onions are tender. Stir in the flour, then the broth, whisking the mixture if you get lumps. Bring the soup to a simmer and cook it for half an hour. Stir in the cream, peanut butter, and chicken and bring the soup back to a simmer. Garnish with the cilantro or parsley, and the scallions or peanuts.

Cabbage - Use Your Head to Make Quick Easy Meals

Cabbage

Cabbage is delicious, nutritious, and a great meal extender. Cabbage is available year-round and you get a lot of food for your food dollar with cabbage. Cabbage has a very dense head, and as you slice it up you will notice that it expands into a much bigger space. Thus, a relatively small head will fill a bigger bowl than you think once it has been cut up. Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable, and an excellent source of Vitamin C. Cabbages come in many different varieties and colors.

Storing Cabbage

Store your cabbage tightly wrapped in plastic in your refrigerator. Alternately, you can use the vegetable storage bags that come with little holes in them for breathing. Cabbage will last several weeks this way. If your cabbage's outer leaves have wilted and turned yellow in the fridge, then peel them off until you reach the crisp green leaves again. Then use your cabbage right away or re-wrap and replace back in fridge.

Cutting Cabbage

If you've never cut cabbage before and are not sure how much you will need, then I suggest that you take your head of cabbage and cut it in half. You will see a core down the center. Remove the core from one half of the cabbage and discard. Wrap the other half of the cabbage and put it away. You can cut the core out of that one later. The less cuts you make, the longer the cabbage retains its vitamin C. Now, slice up the cabbage half you still have sitting on the cutting board. Next, chop up the slices of cabbage. Measure your chopped cabbage and put into a bowl. Isn't it amazing how much chopped cabbage you got from that one half head?

Using Cabbage in Recipes

You have a bowl full of chopped cabbage. Cabbage is so versatile, you can eat it raw, sauteed, braised, steamed, boiled, by itself or combined with other foods. You can add it to lettuce salads, make a coleslaw, add it to soups, boil it with sausages or potatoes, saute it as a stand-alone side dish. Add in a little cream and nutmeg for a special touch. Because cabbage can be prepared so many different ways, it makes a great foundation for quick, easy meals.

Quick Easy Meals:  Cabbage Roll Casserole

In a large pot,  cook 2 lbs ground meat and 1 c chopped onion. Drain and return to pot. Add in 1-29 oz can of tomato sauce, 2-14 oz cans beef broth, 3.5 lbs of chopped cabbage, 1 c uncooked rice and 1 tsp salt. Stir to combine and simmer covered on stove for 15-20 minutes or until rice and cabbage are tender. Season with salt and pepper. If desired, while cooking, add a little of one of the following:  Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, vinegar, nutmeg, garlic powder, etc. Whatever you have that you think will go good with this dish.

Three Traditional American Recipes

There is no denying that American-style food has had a very large impact on cuisine all over the world! No, I don't just mean fast-food, either! Traditional American foods such as the Coney Island-style hot dog, potato chips, fried chicken, and hamburgers with fries are just a few things that, while not all being essentially American, have reached the world through popularity in America. While it is hard to narrow them down, I have included in this article three of my favorite American recipes. I hope you enjoy them!

Oven-Fried Chicken

Ingredients:
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
4 (8-ounce) chicken breast halves (with bones)
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cracker meal
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 tbsp butter

Directions:
In a shallow bowl, combine the buttermilk and chicken. Be sure to turn the chicken to fully coat it with the buttermilk. In another shallow dish, mix together the cracker meal and flour. Take the chicken from the buttermilk and place it onto a sterile surface. Sprinkle the chicken with half a teaspoon of salt and pepper. Dredge the chicken through the four mixture and shake off the excess bits of flour, then set the chicken aside. Repeat this process with each chicken breast. Melt the butter in an oven-proof skillet and cook the chicken on both sides until golden brown. Remove the pan from the range and place it in an oven preheated at 425 degrees F for about half an hour. Fried chicken is traditionally served with mashed potatoes and cole slaw.

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Ingredients:
(gravy)
1lb sausage meat
3 tbsp flour
2 - 3 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste
(biscuits)
2 cups self-raising flour
1/4 cup of shortening
1/4 cup of milk

Directions:
Crumble the sausage meat in a frying pan and cook until the meat is no longer pink. Add in the flour one tablespoon at a time and stir quickly. Keep stirring until a paste forms, and crank up the heat to high. Add in the milk, stir, and then add the salt. This mixture should be quite thick. To make the biscuits, mix together the shortening and flour using a pastry cutter, if you have one. Add in the milk, stirring as you do so. Knead the dough in the bowl, then transfer it onto a floured surface. Roll it out and cut into circular shapes (I find a drinking glass works well for this). Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees F for about 10 - 15 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown. Serve the biscuits open-faced or cut up, with sausage gravy poured on top.

Pecan Pie

Ingredients:
3 eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups pecans
1 (10-inch) pie crust (unbaked)

Directions:
Beat the eggs together, then add the corn syrup, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Melt the butter and add it to the egg mixture. Mix well while adding in the vanilla and pecans. Carefully pour this mixture into the pie crust (you don't want to over-fill it). Bake at 350 degrees F for about 50 minutes, or until the pie has set. Allow the pie to cool before serving. Traditionally served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Dinner Menu Featuring an Amish Beef & Cabbage Casserole

Here is a good dinner menu that is very economical and satisfying. Featured is Amish Beef-Cabbage Casserole that I received from an Amish acquaintance. You will notice that I did not change the recipe but left it authentic with diabetic recommendations in parenthesis. This casserole has meat, vegetables, and rice which is a grain all incorporated into the dish. For our diabetics, skip bread with this meal since there is rice in the casserole. Add three bean salad and finish your meal with chocolate cake.

AMISH BEEF & CABBAGE CASSEROLE

1 lb ground beef, browned and drained

3 cups fresh cabbage, shredded

3/4 cup onion, diced

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1 can tomato soup

1 soup can of water

1 cup cooked rice (brown rice is recommended for diabetics)

1 tbsp brown sugar (can be omitted or use 1 tsp Splenda brown sugar blend)

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease (for health purposes, it is better to use a non-stick vegetable spray) a 2-quart casserole dish. Placed cabbage in dish. Stir in the hamburger and onion. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese, and mix all together. Cover casserole dish and bake for 1 hour. Remove from oven and sprinkle cheese over the top. Ready to serve.

THREE-BEAN SALAD

1 can cut green beans, drained & rinsed

1 can yellow wax beans, drained & rinsed

1 can kidney beans, drained & rinsed

1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped fine

1/2 cup minced onion

Dressing: 3/4 cup Splenda or Equal Sugar Lite

1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil

1/2 cup cider vinegar OR 1/4 cup each cider and balsmic vinegars

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

In a large bowl, combine beans, bell pepper and onion.

Make dressing: Using a glass jar with a screw-on lid, combine sugar substitute, oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. Secure lid and shake jar well to blend ingredients. Pour dressing over bean mixture and mix well to blend. Cover and refrigerate for about 24 hours. Remove from refrigerator and let come to room temperature before serving.

DIABETICS MOIST CHOCOLATE CAKE

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

2 tsp baking soda

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

2 cups Splenda granular

1 cup vegetable oil

1 cup hot coffee

1 cup milk

2 eggs

1 tbsp mayonnaise

1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together all the dry ingredients. Add oil, coffee and milk to dry ingredients; mix with electric mixer on low speed for two minutes. Add eggs, mayonnaise and vanilla extract then beat two minutes more. Spray a 13" x 9" x 2" baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Pour batter into pan and bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Lightly dust with powdered sugar (see how to make sugar-free powdered sugar on this website) if desired or drizzle with sugar-free chocolate sauce.

Enjoy!

The Cabbage Soup Diet Review - Is This the Best Diet?

Now I am sure you have heard about the famous Cabbage Soup Diet. If you have ever been interested in dieting or weight loss, or perhaps read anything to do with the industry then you will have heard about The Cabbage Soup Diet.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is a bit of an urban legend. No one has actually come forward to claim that they invented this diet and it cannot be determined where this diet originated. Because of this fact there is no 100% definite way to carry out this diet. There are a number of different cabbage soup related eating plans floating around on the internet and in magazines worldwide. Every time someone publishes this diet they seem to add their own flare, either adding or taking away a feature.

Surprisingly this means that while on The Cabbage Soup Diet be prepared to be allowed to eat a wide variety of other foods. Although don't get excited the other choices wont be that fantastic.

Of course the amount of hype that surrounds The Cabbage Soup Diet is phenomenal. Frankly this diet definitely doesn't live up to its reputation (or marketing). Some say that this diet has fat burning properties, which of course is a load of rubbish. Other claims say you can lose up to 10 pounds in a single week by undertaking the Cabbage Soup Diet which again is a ridiculous notion.

No matter what some may have you believe, there is no magical ingredient that is found in cabbage soup that can help you lose weight.

The reason this diet works is that by consuming nothing much except for cabbage soup your body does not go hungry however, you consume so few calories that your body begins to burn its stores to get energy.

The original cabbage soup diet had you eating nothing but Cabbage Soup for the duration of the diet. More recent updates of the famous diet let you consume lean meats, vegetables, fruit and brown rice.

I'm sure you can tell that my recommendation on this diet is to avoid it. For starters it is extremely hard to stick to a diet eating plan which causes you to starve yourself, especially if you are active and going to work or exercising. Also most of the weight you will lose from this diet will not be fat. You will lose a lot of water and also lose muscle. Meaning you will lose weight but you will still look fat soft and mushy.

Starving your body like this will also cause your body to enter into survival mode, causing it to hold onto its energy and fat reserves. Something which will make it exceptionally hard for you to lose weight.

Fourth of July Recipes - A Tradition

The Fourth of July Recipes are used on 4th of July because it is a commemorative day for the American Independence; hence, it is but expected for a great nation such as the United States to celebrate the festive day with parades, fireworks and picnics filled with Fourth of July recipes. Many claim that the fourth of July is typically a mix of colors namely: red, blue and white. These significant colors are also applied in food preparation to give a nationalistic theme to it. With a touch of outdoor flavors, the Fourth of July recipes are always going to be a part of this festivity.

Celebration of the American Independence is usually made outdoors under the scorching summer weather. Thus, it is a good tip to keep the warm or hot foods hot and the cold foods kept cold. To achieve this feat, the cook must have meticulous planning way ahead of time so as to perfect the necessary elements of good cooking. The cook must muster these elements namely: safe food preparation, proper transportation of foods to their respective destinations and the appropriate storage of foods, most especially for the leftovers to have a satisfying array of dishes for the Fourth of July recipes.

There are other more specific guidelines for the Fourth of July recipes. First, limit the opening of your coolers so as to prevent rapid evacuation of cool air. The best way to achieve this is to think wisely what or when to get something from the cooler so as to minimize the frequency of opening it. Next, one is advised to place water to the ice in the cooler so as to lengthen the cooling effect of the ice. In addition, it is advisable to place foods in the cooler in watertight containers. Third, the foods that are to be placed inside the cooler is best if it is cooled first because placing warm or hot foods inside the cooler can decrease its total storage time. Fourth, it is best to discard leftover marinade sauces to prevent certain food borne diseases. Moreover, it is a good practice to ice leftover hot foods as soon as possible to avoid bacterial contagion. Especially if you have a picnic far away from home and obviously far from your refrigerators, it is wise to bring extra ice to meet this need.

There is a common mnemonic termed KISS, which is widely used for food preparation. The KISS principle applies to Fourth of July recipes and it has a literal meaning of - Keep It Simple, Silly. It is smart to select simple and easy to prepare foods that you can prepare way ahead of the picnic or eating schedule in order to have maximum enjoyment for the commemoration. The following are some of the easy to prepare patriotic recipe mix of red, white, and blue color scheme that is perfect for the occasion. The Star Spangled Jigglers Recipe; the Red, White and Blue Fruit and Cheese Skewer Recipe; the Simple Flag Pudding Cake Recipe, and lastly the Star Cakesicles Recipe are just some of the common food preparations made during this festive event.

Tasty Vegan Soup Recipes

A vegan does not eat animals or animal products, which rules out meat, fish, poultry, milk, eggs, and cream. Vegans do however eat nuts, fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices, and grains, which means there are plenty of tasty vegan soup recipes that you could create without sacrificing any flavor.

If you are a fan of vegetable soups like pumpkin soup, you can make something like this if you have vegan or vegetarian guests coming to visit. Pumpkin soup is a particular favorite and there are many varieties that you can make.

Use a vegetable stock instead of chicken or beef stock and add whichever other vegetables you fancy. If you want to make a creamy soup, you can use a vegan creamer for a similar effect. You might prefer to make a spicy pumpkin soup or a fragrant curried pumpkin soup recipe.

How to Adapt Non-Vegan Soups for Vegans

There are some ingredients which you need to alter when making a non-vegan soup and there are other things that you cannot substitute. Be careful when cooking for strict vegans because there are some things that you might not know contain animal products.

Wine, for example, sometimes contains gelatin, fish bladders, or egg whites. The same applies to beer. Mayonnaise often contains eggs, although you can get vegan and vegetarian versions of mayonnaise. You can even get vegan Worcestershire sauce because the original product contains anchovies.

Maple syrup sometimes contains tiny amounts of butter, cream, or milk, which might surprise you. This is to stop the syrup from foaming. Flour tortillas might contain whey, glycerides, and lard. Tomato-based sauces sometimes contain animal fat, so check the ingredients labels on anything you buy to serve vegan guests, just in case.

Recipe for Vegan Soup with Lentils and Leeks

This delicious soup is suitable for vegans and non-vegans alike because it is so rich-tasting and full of wonderful flavor and texture. The combination of leeks, carrot, celery, onion, and tomatoes provide the base for this soup and garlic, thyme, and bay leaf are used to add an herbal taste. The barley and lentils add extra flavor and texture and this is a very nutritious soup. It makes enough to serve eight people.

What you will need:

2 sliced leeks
1/4 cup raw barley
1 minced clove garlic
1 chopped carrot
1 chopped rib celery
9 cups vegetable stock
19 oz can chopped tomatoes with liquid
1 chopped onion
1 cup raw lentils
1 bay leaf
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper, to taste

How to make it:

Saute the leeks and onion with the garlic in a soup pot in the oil until tender. Add the lentils, bay leaf, vegetable stock, and barley. Bring the soup to a boil and turn the heat down. Simmer the soup for half an hour, stirring it occasionally.

Add the rest of the ingredients and cover the soup pot. Simmer the soup for an hour or until the lentils are tender. Remove the bay leaf and serve.

Cabbage Soup Heart Diet

The cabbage soup diet is sometimes called the cabbage soup heart diet. It's also called other names including the Mayo Clinic Diet, Military Cabbage Soup, Sacred Heart Diet, TJ's Miracle Diet, the Russian Peasant Diet and the Banana Diet. The diet is somewhat famous mainly because of the promise that if you follow the eating plan you can drop 10 pounds in a week. It will let you drop the weight fast.

If you are concerned about your heart, you know that excess weight is a big problem leading to stress on your heart and problems with blood pressure and a whole host of physical problems. But you need a long-term solution to your weight problems. Short term diets do not work for long term weight loss. You must change your lifestyle by combining exercise with sensible eating.

How does the cabbage soup diet fit into a heart healthy eating plan? It's a quick, relatively easy way to drop up to ten pounds in a week. The main advantage to dropping several pounds fast is motivation. Many diet plans will only produce about one pound of weight loss per week. That's pretty boring especially since your normal weight variation can be more than a pound a day. So you can be on the right track to lose weight over the long-term, but the scales show you're gaining weight in the short-term. That's very discouraging. In comes this diet to let you drop some weight fast. Then back you go to your long-term plan.

The cabbage soup diet is a great morale booster. And you don't just eat cabbage soup either. You get a set food plan for each of the seven days of the plan. Over the week you get a variety of foods including fruits, vegetables, meats, even bananas one day. Plus all the soup you want each day. And you can vary the soup to suit your tastes. Cabbage soup isn't necessarily bland. You can spice it up as you like.

But alas, no pastries or bread for the week. No brownies, peanut butter cookies or sweet potato casserole! No sweet desserts. But it wouldn't be a diet without a little hardship would it.

So the cabbage soup heart diet or whatever you choose to call it, is a short-term motivational diet to let you drop about ten pounds in a week. It isn't a sustainable long-term plan but it could be a part of your overall weight loss and fitness plan.

How to Lose a Quick 5 Pounds

Over the years you may have tried all different types of diets - low carb, low fat, Atkins, stewardess, heart, cabbage soup, lemonade - with the same results. You get quick weight loss in the beginning but then the weight loss stops and in most cases, it comes back. Is there something you can do to lose 5 pounds in a week? Try some of these tips.

Cut down on the sugar. Watch your food labels carefully. Many are tricked by food labels that say "low-fat" or "fat-free". Usually these types of food will add more sugar to replace the flavor from the fat that is removed. The king of empty calories is soda. Sugar sweetened sodas are made up of high fructose corn syrup - which goes directly to fat. Switch to water.

Drink more water. Speaking of water, you probably need to drink more water. Most experts recommend around 8 glasses of water a day. Our bodies are made up of mostly water and if you don't stay hydrated your body wont be able to function properly. The weight that you lose on most quick weight loss diets is water weight. But it is soon put back on because your body knows it needs to store up water to function.

Eat the right kind of fat. Fat tastes good and some fat is good for you. You want to stay away from trans fat - the fat in most deep fried fast foods, margarine, etc., but you should eat plenty of healthy fats like nuts, seeds, avocados and tuna.

Get some exercise. You don't have to exercise a lot to make a difference. If you haven't exercised in awhile talk to your doctor and take it slow at first. Something as simple as walking around the block, or taking the dog for a walk can get your metabolism raised.

Orange Juice Recipes and Benefits of Drinking Oranges

We have 6 wonderful orange juice recipes for you. From plain OJ to a Tropical Storm!

Benefits of Juicing Oranges

Oranges have become synonymous with vitamin C and has taken the throne as the "morning juice". You will see more variety of orange juices at the supermarket than any other type of fruit juice recipes. Though, I don't think packaged orange juice tastes half as good as freshly made juice. Furthermore, fresh orange juice nutrition benefits beats packaged juice hands down.

Apart from its high vitamin C content, there's other nutrients in oranges. It is a good source of folate and fair source of vitamin A. It is also a fair to good source of minerals such as potassium, calcium, phosphorous and magnesium. And that's not all - oranges also contain powerful antioxidants called hesperidin and tangeritin. Both of these nutrients have been shown to have anti-cancer and heart health properties.

Juicing Oranges: Remove the peel from the orange, but always try to leave as much of the white skin on the orange as possible. The peel will produce a very sour taste if juiced, but the white skin contains a lot of nutrition. The pith is also nutrient dense, so I would also recommend juicing that. Follow this advice for all the following recipes.
