A Healthy Detox Recipe For All Ages

Go to any grocery store and you will see aisle after aisle of heavily processed foods. The idea was to preserve foods to feed the ever growing mass public. That goal has been achieved but at a heavy price. On a daily basis our bodies are subjected to chemicals, pesticides, fungicides, MSG, air pollutants, water pollutants and there is almost no way to get away from it. We now live in an age where detoxing our bodies is not just a luxury but a necessity.

The average American diet is over acidic due to our current lifestyle. That means we are open to all types of disease. The liver, kidneys and all other organs in the body are heavily taxed. With a little education and perseverance you can take control of your own health and start to look and feel better. After all, are we not looking for quality of life? This is hard to do when you are feeling sluggish, tired and weak!

Here are some foods that really feed and cleanse the body:

Water

Most Americans are semi dehydrated and don't even know it. It is pretty well known that you are supposed to drink approximately 8 glasses of water per day. Do you know when you haven't been drinking sufficient water? If your urine is dark, that is an easy way to tell if you have not had enough water.

Citrus fruit

Lemons, grapefruit, oranges and limes are packed with delicious nutrients and also hydrate the body. You can do the body a lot of good starting your day with fresh lemon juice in warm water.

Green foods

Such as all forms of lettuce, cabbage, watercress, spinach, broccoli and sprouts. Their anti-oxidant properties, mineral content and chlorophyll, all work their magic on the body.

Nuts and seeds

Eating raw nuts and seeds give us the natural good fats and protein and also have some anti-cancer properties, especially in almonds, pine nuts and sesame seeds. Pumpkin seeds are also good for getting rid of parasites.

Colorful fruits and vegetables

We want to eat lots of these. The nutrient value is unmatched. We also get a lot of fiber from eating fruits and vegetables and that keeps our digestive system working properly.

Here is a healthy recipe that tastes great and feeds and cleanses the body;

Summer Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette

In a salad bowl combine, lettuce of your choice, spinach leaves, watercress, chives, mandarin orange slices and sesame seeds.

To make the vinaigrette, combine ½ cup fresh orange juice, the juice of 1 fresh lemon, the rind of the orange and lemon,1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp honey and pepper to taste. Mix well and pour over salad.

Keep in mind that we want to reduce the amount of chemicals and pesticides etc., so choose organic foods and spices. It is well worth it in the long run for your health and well being.

If you are serious about detoxing and cleansing the body, then eat right, drink a lot of fluids and get some regular exercise. Our bodies were designed this way.

Currently, we live in a toxic world and the food industry is not likely to change its way anytime soon. It is up to us to create the demand for all natural food, and that is as it should be.

Good health to you!
